Ahhh... the understated warung. In modern Bali, with its ever-increasing number of fancy restaurants and western-style cafes, it's easy to overlook this humble eatery.
When it comes to Kala Surf though, we're always recommending our guests eat at the local warungs. We have our favourites, of course, but you'd be hard pressed to find a bad one in all honesty.
That said, the following warungs in Uluwatu are our favourites!
We’ve done the best restaurants in Uluwatu. Now it’s time to talk about where the real food magic happens.
Warungs are small family-owned and operated restaurants found throughout Indonesia.
They often serve a variety of traditional dishes, such as nasi goreng (fried rice), mie goreng (fried noodles) and ayam bakar (grilled chicken).
Warungs typically have a cozy, casual atmosphere and offer affordable prices.
While Kala Surf has only been open for a couple of years, our staff and team members have been either living in, coming to or surfing in the Bukit Peninsula for decades.
We've had plenty of time to try out different warungs and narrow down our top picks based on quality, taste and overall experience.
We can't wait to share our favourites with you!
Warungs have always attracted a wide variety of people, from locals to tourists.
They're generally popular among surfers and backpackers due to their affordable prices and authentic Indonesian dishes.
But don't be surprised if you also see families and expats dining at warungs… they're loved by everyone.
In recent years, some warungs have also become great places for coworking. This just goes to show how versatile and inviting these small eateries can be.
Yeye's Warung is arguably the best and most historical warung in Uluwatu, having been around for over 25 years.
It's become a staple among the surfing community and is known for its laid back vibe and delicious food. The beers are cheap, there's an interesting fusion of Indonesian and Western dishes and they even have a gift shop where you can find unique souvenirs.
A decent-sized meal will only cost you around IDR 50,000 (approximately just over US$3), making it an affordable option for any budget traveler.

Are you a vegetarian or vegan who's also looking for a comfortable coworking space? Satu has you covered with comfortable seating, fast WiFi, and a peaceful environment.
Their asian salads, spinach hummus and cauliflower salad are just a few of the amazing choices you'll have to choose from. From breakfast all the way up to dinner, you can't go wrong at Satu.
There are also fish, chicken and meat dishes if you feel so inclined. The tofu scramble salad, however, is a must!

This isn't just one of the best warungs in Uluwatu – it's one of the best in Bali. Located on the famous Bingin Beach, Kelly's Warung offers an unbeatable combination of delicious food and breathtaking views over this famous surf break.
With its prime cliffside location, Kelly's Warung is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a cold drink after a long day of surfing or exploring Bali. But what truly sets Kelly's Warung apart is their mouth-watering menu.
Whether you're in the mood for fresh seafood, Indonesian classics or international favourites, they have something for everyone.

Uluwatu, Bali has plenty of warungs for your eating pleasure. Some are super traditional, but others serve a more westernised menu like Warung Local.
It's not a traditional warung, but Warung Local offers a unique twist on local cuisine with a trendy and modern atmosphere. There's an extensive range of dishes and as per usual, there's a good range of different drinks to complement your meal.
You can eat here for only IDR 60,000 (around US$4), which makes it worth a visit for those looking to try something familiar while still enjoying the flavours of Bali.
They also have really good ice-cream, free rice crackers, and a nice little air conditioned coworking space if you want to spend the day there!

Bu Jonny is one of the coolest but understated spots in Uluwatu, and it’s loved by both locals and tourists alike.
All the surf instructors from Pecatu to Uluwatu know Jonny and his family. You'll often find them hanging out after a long day of surfing. The main meals are Nasi Goreng or Lalapan. Whatever you choose, make sure you don't leave without trying their fried chicken and sambal!
Plastic chairs. Warm smiles. Meals for under $5 and frosty cold ice tea. Bu Jonny offers an authentic and budget-friendly dining experience that's not to be missed.

Looking for a super relaxed brunch, breakfast or dinner restaurant in Uluwatu? Warung Cenana is the perfect place to go!
The layout is open and airy and the food menu is sublime. We're talking chicken satay, crispy tempeh and babi guling... and that's just the start. Their most ordered dish is the nasi goreng with its perfectly cooked rice. It’s one of our favourites, for sure!
Sit inside and enjoy the shade or kick back in the garden with its many tables and bungalows. It's so welcoming you'll never want to leave!
